  8. Single-nucleotide polymorphism in UMOD gene is associated with type 2 diabetes.

  9. Patients with Acute kidney injury tended to have lower sUMOD. Although sUMOD correlated significantly with kidney function in the early phase of severe acute pancreatitis (AP), measuring sUMOD did not allow to reliably predict AP severity or development

  15. High urinary uromodulin levels are associated with lower risk for UTI in older community-dwelling adults independent of traditional UTI risk factors.

  16. The uromodulin-CFH interaction enhanced the cofactor activity of CFH for factor I-mediated cleavage of C3b to inactivated C3b.

  17. These findings suggest that the levels of urinary microvesicle-bound uromodulin are associated with the severity of diabetic kidney disease.

  18. Data strongly suggest that the uromodulin ancestral allele, driving higher urinary excretion of uromodulin, has been kept at a high frequency because of its protective effect against urinary tract infections

  19. The frequency of uromodulin single nucleotide polymorphism rs13333226 GG/GA genotype was significantly higher and the frequency of G allele was much higher in the patients with end stage renal disease than in the controls.

  20. Serum uromodulin concentrations are closely correlated with estimated glomerular filtration rate, which is the recommended measure of renal function. As uromodulin is produced exclusively by renal tubular cells, the assessment of uromodulin levels in patients with chronic kidney disease may be an alternative method for evaluating the number of functioning nephrons.

  1. Our data support a role for uromodulin in the functional heterogeneity along the DCT: Umod-/- mice show less pNCC in DCT1 and increased pNCC in DCT2, paralleled by an expansion of DCT2. When exposed to chronic distal salt loading (furosemide), Umod-/- mice show a severely blunted capacity to increase NCC phosphorylation and lack the capacity to upregulate the DCT1 and DCT2 areas, compared with Umodthorn/thorn mice.

  2. This work outlines a previously unknown role for Tamm-Horsfall Protein as an essential component for host immune defense against fungal urinary tract infection.

  3. increased urinary UMOD secretion in low-magnesium states reduces TRPM6 endocytosis and thereby up-regulates TRPM6 cell-surface abundance to defend against further urinary magn

  4. Our findings suggest a role for UMOD-dependent inhibition of KIM-1 expression and its apoptotic cell scavenging responses during chronic obstruction-associated tubular injury

  11. TNFalpha regulates uromodulin expression in a homeostatic setting, but the impact of TNFalpha on uromodulin during kidney injury is superseded by other factors that could inhibit HNF1beta-mediated expression of uromodulin.

  12. AGP was more effective in limiting hepatic inflammation and maintaining perfusion than saline or HAS, in both endotoxemic and septic mice. AGP sequestration of LPS may contribute to its anti-inflammatory effects.

Uromodulin (UMOD) Antigen Profile

Antigen Summary

This gene encodes uromodulin, the most abundant protein in normal urine. Its excretion in urine follows proteolytic cleavage of the ectodomain of its glycosyl phosphatidylinosital-anchored counterpart that is situated on the luminal cell surface of the loop of Henle. Uromodulin may act as a constitutive inhibitor of calcium crystallization in renal fluids. Excretion of uromodulin in urine may provide defense against urinary tract infections caused by uropathogenic bacteria. Defects in this gene are associated with the autosomal dominant renal disorders medullary cystic kidney disease-2 (MCKD2) and familial juvenile hyperuricemic nephropathy (FJHN). These disorders are characterized by juvenile onset of hyperuricemia, gout, and progressive renal failure. While several transcript variants may exist for this gene, the full-length natures of only two have been described to date. These two represent the major variants of this gene and encode the same isoform.
