- Background
- Monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) is a flavin-containing mitochondrial enzyme, which catalyzes the oxidative deamination of biogenic and xenobiotic monoamines. It regulates the metabolic degradation of catecholamines and serotonin in neural and other target tissues. MAO-B is found platelets and in dopamine-secreting neurons in the brain. Increased levels of MAO B that have been identified in brain of Alzheimer's patients. Monoamine oxidases (MAO B and MAO A) are well-known targets for antidepressant drugs and for drugs used to treat neurological disorders and aging diseases, such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease.,Amine oxidase [flavin-containing] B, Monoamine oxidase type B, MAOB, Mao Platelet, MAO Brain.
