  1. Conditional inactivation of Elf5 in the developing collecting ducts results in a small but significant reduction in the expression levels of Aqp2 and Avpr2 genes.

  2. Mechanistically, RL negatively regulates Stat5 (show STAT5A Proteins) phosphorylation and Elf5 expression at the onset of lactogenesis. Continuous RL exposure leads to the expansion of basal and bipotent cells in WT and MMTV-RANK acini. Overall, we demonstrate that enhanced Rank signaling impairs secretory differentiation during pregnancy by inhibition of the prolactin (show PRL Proteins)/p-Stat5 (show STAT5A Proteins) pathway.

  3. Elf5 at the center of a stoichiometry-sensitive transcriptional network, where it acts as a molecular switch governing the balance between TSC (show SLC12A3 Proteins) proliferation and differentiation

  4. Elf5 and Ets2 (show ETS2 Proteins) maintain the mouse extraembryonic ectoderm in a dosage dependent synergistic manner

  5. Elf5 counteracts precocious trophoblast differentiation by maintaining Sox2 (show SOX2 Proteins) and 3 and inhibiting Hand1 (show HAND1 Proteins) expression.

  6. Blockade of RankL (show TNFSF11 Proteins) action prevented progesterone-induced side branching and the expansion of Elf5(+) mature luminal cells.

  7. Elf5 inhibits the epithelial-mesenchymal transition in mammary gland development and breast cancer metastasis by transcriptionally repressing Snail2.

  8. Studies suggest that Elf5 loss leads to hyperactivation of the Notch (show NOTCH1 Proteins) signaling pathway, which might constitute in part, the underlying molecular mechanism for the altered cell lineage decisions in Elf5-null mammary epithelial cells.

  9. Elf5 promoter methylation is regulated during mammary differentiation in vivo.

  10. identify novel transcriptional targets of Elf5 and show that Muc4 (show MUC4 Proteins) is a direct target of Elf5, further elucidating the mechanisms through which Elf5 regulates proliferation and differentiation in the mammary gland

  1. When ELF5 was transfected into the parental MCF7 cells that lack CEACAM1 (show CEACAM1 Proteins), lumen formation was restored, indicating that ELF5 can replace CEACAM1 (show CEACAM1 Proteins) in this model system of lumenogenesis.

  2. These results support the contention that ABO (show ABO Proteins) expression is dependent upon a downstream positive regulatory element functioning through a tissue-restricted transcription factor, Elf5, in epithelial cells.

  3. Low ELF5 expression is associated with ovarian cancer.

  4. The results of this study suggest that ELF5 is a candidate gene that confers genetic susceptibility for pediatric asthma in the Taiwanese population and SNP rs3910901 may have a minor impact on pediatric asthma in the Taiwanese population.

  5. a novel EWSR1 (show EWSR1 Proteins)/ETS (show ETS1 Proteins) chimeric gene, was identified in a patient diagnosed with refractory AML (show RUNX1 Proteins), suggesting a potential role of leukemogenesis in rare cases of AML (show RUNX1 Proteins). This fusion gene is very likely to exhibit oncogenic potential by interfering with the p53 (show TP53 Proteins)/p21 (show CDKN1A Proteins)-dependent pathway.

  6. Alternative promoter use, conferring differential regulatory responses, is the main mechanism governing ELF5 action rather than differential transcriptional activity of the isoforms.

  7. Data (including data from studies in transgenic mice) suggest that expression of ELF5 in luminal breast cancer correlates with increased myeloid cell invasion, inflammation, and lung metastasis.

  8. we identified Elf5 as a novel biomarker of urothelial cancer on several biological levels and established a causative link between Elf5 and epithelial-mesenchymal transition in urothelial cancer.

  9. Elf5 expression is inversely correlated with epithelial-mesenchymal transition in prostate cancer.

  10. ELF5 provides a key transcriptional determinant of breast cancer molecular subtype by suppression of estrogen sensitivity in luminal breast cancer cells.

ELF5 Protein Profile

Protein Summary

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of an epithelium-specific subclass of the Ets transcritpion factor family. In addition to its role in regulating the later stages of terminal differentiation of keratinocytes, it appears to regulate a number of epithelium-specific genes found in tissues containing glandular epithelium such as salivary gland and prostate. It has very low affinity to DNA due to its negative regulatory domain at the amino terminus. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.
