Spz1 has a regulatory role during spermatogenesis.
the interaction between Spz1 and PP1cgamma2 may be required for proper regulation of spermatogenesis and fertility in males
SPZ1 promotes epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT (show ITK Proteins)) by trans-activating the gene of TWIST1 (show TWIST1 Proteins). A clinical analysis showed a marker association of SPZ1 and TWIST1 (show TWIST1 Proteins) with induction of tumorigenesis in HCC (show FAM126A Proteins) patients.
This gene encodes a bHLH-zip transcription factor which functions in the mitogen-activate protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. Because of its role in the upregulation of cell proliferation and tumorigenesis, this gene may serve as a target for Ras-induced tumor treatments.
