Background
- Calponin is a thin filament associated protein that is implicated in the regulation and modulation of smooth muscle contraction. It is capable of binding to actin, calmodulin, troponin C and tropomyosin. The interaction of calponin with actin inhibits the actomyosin Mg-ATPase activity. Unlike basic calponin, the expression of acidic calponin is not restricted to smooth muscle, it can be detected in a number of different cells and tissues.Synonyms: CNN3, Calponin acidic isoform
