Background
Pericentrin 1 (also designated Frount protein or Nucleoporin Nup75) is an integral anchor protein which has cytoskeletal anchoring activity. It is a highly conserved centrosome protein involved in microtubule organization and is also active in centrosome assembly by binding dynein complexes. Pericentrin acts as a regulator of microtubule nucleation by associating with gammatubulin and anchors the PKA holoenzyme at the association site. The gene encoding human pericentrin 1 maps to chromosome 17q25.2.
