Gao, Yu, Bi, Jiang, Cui, Sun, Ma: "Akt/PKB interacts with the histone H3 methyltransferase SETDB1 and coordinates to silence gene expression." in: Molecular and cellular biochemistry, Vol. 305, Issue 1-2, pp. 35-44, (2007) (PubMed).
This gene encodes a histone methyltransferase. The encoded enzyme catalyzes the reaction of S-adenosyl-Lmethionine and histone L-lysine to produce S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine and histone N(6)-methyl-L-lysine. The encoded protein likely functions in transcriptional repression. Tissue specificity: Widely expressed. High expression in testis. Synonyms: ESET, KG1T, KMT1E, KIAA0067, H3-K9-HMTase4, SETDB1
