Cow (Bovine) Aquaporin 3 (Gill Blood Group) (AQP3) interaction partners

  1. Our findings suggest that AQP3 and AQP7 are possibly involved in the tolerance to freeze-thawing in bull spermatozoa, particularly in the sperm's tail.

  2. Data suggest that AQP3 is localized to mid-piece of bull spermatozoa; AQP7 is localized to mid-piece and post-acrosomal region of bull spermatozoa. Neither relative abundance of AQP3 or AQP7 nor their localization patterns is altered by cryopreservation; individual differences between bull ejaculates appear to be common. Abundance of AQP7 is higher in ejaculates with good versus poor freezability in cryopreservation.

  3. Data suggest that expression of AQP3 (aquaglyceroporin-3) in rumen mucosa can be modulated by dietary factors; here, AQP3 and UT-B (urea transporter B) expression are upregulated with solid food intake (low-protein diet of plant forage) at weaning.

AQP3 Antigen Profile

Antigen Summary

This gene encodes the water channel protein aquaporin 3. Aquaporins are a family of small integral membrane proteins related to the major intrinsic protein, also known as aquaporin 0. Aquaporin 3 is localized at the basal lateral membranes of collecting duct cells in the kidney. In addition to its water channel function, aquaporin 3 has been found to facilitate the transport of nonionic small solutes such as urea and glycerol, but to a smaller degree. It has been suggested that water channels can be functionally heterogeneous and possess water and solute permeation mechanisms.
