  1. These data indicate that secretome derived from salivary gland cancer cells can influence the expression of two potential biomarkers of oral cancer-namely, bone sialoprotein (BSP) and dentin sialoprotein (DSP)-in normal salivary gland cells.

  2. In conclusion, serum levels of BSP, ALP, ICTP, and PSA increased in patients with bone metastases, and combined detection of all markers could improve the positive-predictive value.

  3. Preameloblast-Derived Factors Mediate Osteoblast Differentiation of Human Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells by Runx2-Osterix-BSP Signaling.

  4. Two significant SNPs within IBSP, rs1054627 and rs17013181, were associated with BMD and postmenopausal osteoporosis by the two-stage strategy, and rs17013181 was also significantly associated with serum IBSP levels.

  5. Our results suggest that SSEA-4 is a specific cell surface antigen that can be used to identify dental pulp stem cells.

  6. the strong correlation between bone sialoprotein and OPN and papillary thyroid carcinoma suggests a role for BSP and OPN in calcification and tumor progression of papillary thyroid carcinoma

  7. oxidized low-density lipoprotein-induced expression dependent on Runx2 expression

  8. Bone sialoprotein could be a key mediator of the hypertrophic chondrocytes-induced angiogenesis of osteoarthritis.

  9. Current evidence demonstrates that BSP and OPN, play significant roles in bone metastasis of osteotropic malignancies derived from breast, prostate, lung, thyroid, and multiple myeloma. [review]

  10. High expression of bone sialoprotein in breast neoplasms was associated with cytokeratin-positive cells in bone marrow, but not with lymph node metastasis.

  11. results indicate that FGF2 increases BSP transcription by targeting the FRE and AP1 elements in the proximal promoter of the human BSP gene.

  12. BSP silencing decreased the integrin alphavbeta3 and beta3 levels, in turn inhibiting cell migration and invasion and decreasing the ability of the cells to metastasize to bone.

  13. IBSP mRNA is over expressed in carotid atheroma plaque (3.74 fold, p = 1.41E-09) in an intraindividual comparison.

  14. High BSP expression occurs in a significant subset of high-grade glioma patients and predicts a poorer outcome

  15. HTRA1 has a central role in osteogenesis through modification of proteins within the extracellular matrix, in particular, ibsp.

  16. human primary cementoblasts subjected to compression and IL-1beta stimulation impeded BSP and CEMP-1 expression, proteins that are associated with cementogenesis.

  17. OPN plasma levels are associated with the genetic polymorphisms in integrin-binding sialoprotein gene locus (IBSP)

  18. BSP protein expression in the primary resected non-small-cell lung cancer is strongly associated with bone metastasis and could be used to identify high-risk patients.

  19. RT-PCR analysis of human bone marrow stromal cells during osteogenesis in vitro: the mRNA levels of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2), bone sialoprotein-II (BSP), osteopontin (OP) and cbfa-1 increased with culture time in osteogenic medium.

  1. Tb4 induced BSP expression in MDPC23 cells via ERK and Smad3 signaling pathways, suggesting its role as a signaling molecule in odontoblasts for regulating BSP secretion during dentinogenesis.

  2. Data indicate that BSP is present in the calcified fibrocartilage of murine entheses and suggest that BSP plays a regulatory role in this structure, influencing the growth of the calcified fibrocartilage in addition to the weakening of the tendon mechanical properties.

  3. Bone marrow ablation in BSP-/- mice is followed by a faster vascular and hematopoietic recolonization, along with lower medullary bone formation. Thus, lack of BSP affects the interplay between hematopoiesis, angiogenesis, and osteogenesis, maybe in part through higher expression of VEGF and the angiogenic SIBLING, OPN.

  4. a bone sialoprotein-null bone microenvironment affects the hematopoietic system both quantitatively and qualitatively

  5. full expression of either OPN or BSP is necessary for the anabolic effect of PTH at least in the ectopic calvaria injection model

  6. BSP plays a non-redundant role in acellular cementum formation, likely involved in initiating mineralization on the root surface. Through its importance to cementum integrity, BSP is essential for periodontal function.

  7. Lack of BSP affects both osteoclast formation and activity.

  8. bone sialoprotein has a role in neoplasm metastasis

  9. BSP gene transcription is autoregulated in part by a positive feedback on its own promoter.

  10. Bsp mRNA is expressed in developing testis cords and thus may contribute to testis differentiation

  11. BSP contributes to RANKL-mediated bone resorption by inducing osteoclastogenesis and osteoclast survival and decreasing osteoclast apoptosis

  12. Stimulation with EMD significantly (P < .01) enhanced mRNA expression of BSP up to 13.9-fold.

  13. studies provided direct evidence for the involvement of covalently bound phosphates on BSP in receptor mediated "outside-in" signaling via transmembrane tyrosine phosphorylation with concurrent effects on downstream gene expressions

Integrin-Binding Sialoprotein (IBSP) Protein Profile

Protein Summary

The protein encoded by this gene is a major structural protein of the bone matrix. It constitutes approximately 12% of the noncollagenous proteins in human bone and is synthesized by skeletal-associated cell types, including hypertrophic chondrocytes, osteoblasts, osteocytes, and osteoclasts. The only extraskeletal site of its synthesis is the trophoblast. This protein binds to calcium and hydroxyapatite via its acidic amino acid clusters, and mediates cell attachment through an RGD sequence that recognizes the vitronectin receptor.
