HuR (also called Elavl-1 or HuA) is a protein that binds to specific AU-rich elements in a mRNA and thereby upregulates its expression. The protein contains three RRM type RNA binding domains. The first and second RNA binding domains interact with the AU-rich element. HuR is a member of a family of proteins called the elav-like proteins. The other members, HuD, HuC, and HEL-N1 are predominantly expressed in neurons. Monoclonal 19F12 was designed by CLONEGENE and was generated against a unique HuR peptide and does not react with HuD, HuC, or Hel-N1.
