Brozzetti, Alimohammadi, Morelli, Minarelli, Hallgren, Giordano, De Bellis, Perniola, Kämpe, Falorni: Autoantibody response against NALP5/MATER in primary ovarian insufficiency and in autoimmune Addison's disease. in The Journal of clinical endocrinology and metabolism 2015
The present study demonstrated that EGF controlled expression of three activin subunits (inhbaa, inhbab and inhbb) in the follicle cells via diverse signaling pathways.
whereas the inhibitory effect of hCG on activin betaB expression is likely mediated by PKA-independent pathway(s).
Activin betaA is involved in promoting ovary and follicle growth, whereas activin betaB may have a tonic role throughout follicle development but becomes critical at the late stage of oocyte maturation and/or ovulation.
point mutation enhances the affinity of Noggin2 to ActivinB, while weakens its affinity to BMP.
Noggin2 protected the developing forebrain from inhibition by Activin B and XWnt8 signaling.
A new role for activin B during gastrulation involves cell cycle arrest in the involuting dorsal axial mesoderm.
key player in mesodermal patterning
Used monoclonal antibody to xenopus laevis Inhbb in ELISA for detection of human Inhbb.
These data suggest that activin-follistatin regulation may play a role during the development of Experimental autoimmune epididymo-orchitis.
Inflammatory stimuli strongly induce Smad2 and Smad5 phosphorylation in wild-type mice. None of these Smad effectors are activated in mice deficient in activin B. Activin B, whose messenger RNA expression is strongly induced after LPS administration or E coli infection, is required for activation of Smad1/5/8 signaling. Hepcidin expression did not depend on activin B expression.
These results suggest that prolonged exposure to hyperglycemia in the Ins2(Akita+/-) mice leads to progressive testicular disruption mediated by testicular activin activity, rather than hormonal dysregulation.
This study tested the hypothesis that inhibins act in an autocrine manner on Leydig cells using a pre-pubertal Leydig cell line, TM3, as a model of immature Leydig cells.
Menin binds on the promoter of Inhbb gene where it favours the recruitment of Ezh2 via an indirect mechanism involving Akt-phosphorylation.
Data suggest Inhbb is physiologically essential for early folliculogenesis; Inhbb appears to participate in regulation of cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and steroidogenesis (estradiol/progesterone synthesis) in ovarian granulosa cells in culture.
Activin B, a transforming growth factor beta - related ligand, is upregulated during tumorigenesis and drives the loss of insulin expression and beta-cell maturity in a mouse insulinoma model.
in mammalian spinal cord, Tgfbeta ligands and ActB together support oligodendrocyte development and myelin formation
No differences were observed in fasting glucose/insulin levels, glucose tolerance, insulin sensitivity, or insulin secretion in comparing young or older males on in comparing insulin secretion from islets of wild type or activin B knockout males.
There is a dramatic induction of Inhbb mRNA, encoding the activin beta(B)-subunit, in liver challenged with lipopolysaccharide, slightly preceding an increase in Smad1/5/8 phosphorylation and Hamp mRNA.
the transition between stem cells and committed progenitors is neither sharp nor irreversible and GDF11, ACTbetaB and FST are crucial components of a circuit that controls both total cell number and the ratio of neuronal versus glial cells in this system
These data support the role of proconvertase PCSK5 in the processing of ovarian inhibin subunits during folliculogenesis.
Maintenance of female germ cells hinge upon a delicate balance between positive (WNT4 and beta-catenin) and negative (activin betaB) regulators derived from the somatic cells in the fetal ovary.
Inhbb-deficient mice have failure of eyelid fusion at birth and demonstrate more severe effects on somatic growth and survival.
Activin affects both stromal cells and keratinocytes in normal and wounded skin, and the effect on keratinocytes is dose-dependent in vivo.
inhibins A and B differentially antagonize the actions of activins and BMPs to control adrenocortical C(19) steroid production
ALK7 plays an important role in regulating the functional plasticity of pancreatic islets, negatively affecting beta-cell function by mediating the effects of activin B on Ca(2+) signaling
Knockdown of the type 2 receptor BMPR2 strongly potentiated activin A- and activin B-induced activation of SMAD1/5/8 and subsequent cell death.
three novel MD loci were identified (at P < 5 x 10(- 8)): one for percent dense volume (HABP2) and two for the absolute dense volume (INHBB, LINC01483). INHBB is an established locus for ER-negative breast cancer, and HABP2 and LINC01483 represent putative new breast cancer susceptibility loci
Results found that INHBB expression was reduced in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) tissues, and associated with lymph node metastasis. Further data revealed that INHBB could suppress anoikis resistance and migration of NPC cells by the TGF-beta signaling pathway, decrease p53 overexpression, and could serve as a potential biomarker for NPC metastasis and prognosis .
Presence of varicocele was associated with lower serum inhibin B.
Elevated activin B levels together with normal activin A levels identified patients with the diagnostic symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis.
Results identified Inhbb as one factor mediating the proliferative effect of Pdx-1 on islet cells.
Low activin B level is associated with tubal ectopic pregnancy.
The Sertoli cell hormones inhibin-B and anti Mullerian hormone have different patterns of secretion in prepubertal cryptorchid boys.
Pregnant Han Chinese women carrying the rs7579169 CC genotype and G-G-C haplotype are significantly more likely to develop pre-eclampsia, especially late-onset and multiparous cases.
We report here an original observation that activin-B is upregulated in the human idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis lung.
reduction of RhoA signaling by Activin B together with persistent Rac1 activity is a prerequisite for inducing an invasive phenotype in clear cell renal cell carcinoma.
inhibin B and anti-Mullerian hormone serum concentrations did not provide an additional diagnostic tool for male infertility
Activin-A and -B are abundantly expressed in mesothelioma tumor tissue.
Activin A, B, and AB have similar effects on steroidogenesis in human granulosa cells; in contrast, activin AC is not biologically active and does not act as a competitive antagonist.
Serum inhibin levels correlate with clinical characteristics and mortality in epithelial ovarian cancer patients.
inhibin B levels, but not FSH, are increased in primary hypothyroidism, which is consistent with a hypogonadotrophic hypogonadal state affecting the reproductive segment of the gonadotrophic axis

our data indicate that miR-34a plays an important role in granulosa cell apoptosis by targeting the INHBB gene in the porcine ovary
results indicated that boar testis produces inhibin A and inhibin B during the infantile period but inhibin A is the predominant form towards puberty and molecular weight forms of inhibin and the sites of production change with testicular development
The inhibin beta B subunit joins the alpha subunit to form a pituitary FSH secretion inhibitor. Inhibin has been shown to regulate gonadal stromal cell proliferation negatively and to have tumour-suppressor activity. In addition, serum levels of inhibin have been shown to reflect the size of granulosa-cell tumors and can therefore be used as a marker for primary as well as recurrent disease. Because expression in gonadal and various extragonadal tissues may vary severalfold in a tissue-specific fashion, it is proposed that inhibin may be both a growth/differentiation factor and a hormone. Furthermore, the beta B subunit forms a homodimer, activin B, and also joins with the beta A subunit to form a heterodimer, activin AB, both of which stimulate FSH secretion.
