Tetraspanin CD151 Is a Negative Regulator of FcepsilonRI (show FCER1A Antibodies)-Mediated Mast Cell Activation
Integrin-associated CD151 represses mammary branching morphogenesis by controlling progenitor cell activities, extracellular matrix integrity and transcription program.

We identify CD151 as a critical factor in tetradecanoylphorbol acetate-dependent skin carcinogenesis.
Loss of CD151 is associated with drug sensitivity in skin squamous cell carcinoma.
study provides strong evidence that CD151 collaborates with LB integrins (particularly alpha6beta4 and ErbB2 (show ERBB2 Antibodies) (and EGFR (show EGFR Antibodies)) receptors to regulate multiple signaling pathways, thereby driving mammary tumor onset, survival, and metastasis
CD151 importantly modulates podocyte function.

CD151 maintains vascular stability by promoting endothelial cell adhesions, especially cell-cell adhesion, and confining cytoskeletal tension.
diminished metastasis in CD151-null host animals may be due to impaired tumor-endothelial interactions, with underlying defects in mouse lung endothelial cell extracellular matrix production.
Platelet-enhanced endothelial colony forming cell angiogenesis requires platelet tetraspanin CD151 and alpha6beta1 integrin signaling.
these findings identify CD151 and its interactions with integrins a3 and a6 as potential therapeutic targets for inhibiting stemness-driving mechanisms and stem cell populations in Glioblastoma.
CD151 knockdown inhibits the expression of MMP9 (show MMP9 Antibodies) through the GSK-3b/bcatenin pathway and also inhibits Osteosarcoma (OS)migration and invasion in vitro and metastasis in vivo in highly metastatic OS.
the role of the CD151-alpha3beta1 complex in carcinoma progression is context dependent, and may depend on the mode of tumor cell invasion.

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the transmembrane 4 superfamily, also known as the tetraspanin family. Most of these members are cell-surface proteins that are characterized by the presence of four hydrophobic domains. The proteins mediate signal transduction events that play a role in the regulation of cell development, activation, growth and motility. This encoded protein is a cell surface glycoprotein that is known to complex with integrins and other transmembrane 4 superfamily proteins. It is involved in cellular processes including cell adhesion and may regulate integrin trafficking and/or function. This protein enhances cell motility, invasion and metastasis of cancer cells. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants that encode the same protein have been described for this gene.
