- Background
- MYEF-2 is expressed early in the differentiation program and is suppressed by specific polypeptide growth factors. The ability of MYEF-2 to recognize conserved activating elements associated with multiple-specific genes suggests that this factor may participate in the coordinate regulation of genes during myogenesis. MYEF1 acts as transcriptional repressor of the myelin basic protein gene (MBP) and binds to the proximal MB1 element 5'-TTGTCC-3' of the MBP promoter. Its binding to MB1 and function are inhibited by PURA.Synonyms: KIAA1341, MST156, MYEF2, Myelin expression factor 2
