| Description | Human Adiponectin, also referred to as AdipoQ, Acrp30, apm-1 or GBP28, is a secreted protein expressed exclusively in differentiated adipocyte (an adipokine family member). Adiponectin contains a modular structure comprising an N-terminal collagenous domain followed by a C- terminal globular domain (gAcrp30). Adiponectin plays a role in various physiological processes such as energy homeostasis and obesity. Plasma levels of adiponectin are reduced in obese humans, and decreased levels are associated with insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia. Alternate Names: ACRP30, ADIPOQ, ACDC, APM1, APM-1, GBP28, Adipocyte, C1q and collagen domain-containing protein, Adipocyte complement-related 30 kDa protein, Adipose most abundant gene transcript 1 protein, Gelatin-binding protein. |
