Additional Information

Gene ID NP_005219
Swiss-Prot P00533
Immunogen This affinity purified antibody was prepared from whole rabbit serum produced by repeated immunizations with asynthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 1189-1199 of human EGFR protein.
Format Liquid (sterile filtered)
Description EGFR is a transmembraneglycoprotein that is a member of a family of proteintyrosine kinases crucial in maintaining a normalbalance in cell growth and development. Growthfactor receptors are involved not only in promoting theproliferation of normal cells but also in the aberrantgrowth of many types of human tumors. For example, the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) ismutated and/or overexpressed in many common solidhuman squamous cell carcinomas including breast, brain, bladder, lung, gastric, head & neck, esophagus, cervix, vulva, ovary, and endometrium. Over-expression of the EGFR gene occurs in carcinomaswith and without gene amplification. EGFR and erbB-2 are particularly important in breast cancer becauseincreased production or activation has beenassociated with poor prognosis. EGFR belongs to afamily of growth factor receptors, which also includesErbB-2/HER-2/neu, ErbB-3/HER-3/neu and ErbB-4/HER-4neu. EGFR can heterodimerize with each ofthe members of this family.
Specificity This antiserum is directed against human epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and is useful indetermining its presence in ELISA and western blotting experiments. This antibody can detect EGFR from human, mouse andrat sources. Reactivity of this antibody with EGFR from other species is unknown.

Application Details

Application Notes This affinity purified antibody has been tested for use in ELISA and western blot. Specific conditionsfor reactivity should be optimized by the end user. Expect a band approximately 170 kDa in size corresponding to EGFRprotein by western blotting in the appropriate cell lysate or extract. This antibody detects both non-phosphorylated andphosphorylated EGFR at residue Y1197.
Concentration 1.0 mg/ml (by UV absorbance at 280 nm)
Buffer Stabilizer: None. Preservative: 0.01% (w/v) Sodium Azide. Buffer: 0.02 M Potassium Phosphate, 0.15 M Sodium Chloride, pH 7.2.
Storage Store vial at -20° C prior to opening. Dilute only prior to immediate use. For extended storage aliquotcontents and freeze at -20° C or below. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Expiration date is one (1) year from date ofopening.
