Target
SLC2A2
(Solute Carrier Family 2 (Facilitated Glucose Transporter), Member 2 (SLC2A2))
Alternative Name
GLUT2
Background
Most mammalian cells transport glucose through a family of membrane proteins known as glucose transporters. Glut isoforms differ in their tissue expression, substrate specificity and kinetic characteristics. Glut-2 is present in liver, intestine, kidney and betapancreatic islet cells and likely mediates the bidirectional transfer of glucose across the plasma membrane.
