Description
CCR8 is a member of the beta chemokine receptor family, which is predicted to be a seventransmembrane protein similar to G protein coupled receptors. Chemokines and theirreceptors are important for the migration of various cell types into the inflammatory sites. This receptor protein preferentially expresses in the thymus. I-309, thymus activationregulated cytokine (TARC) and macrophage inflammatory protein 1 beta (MIP1 beta) havebeen identified as ligands of this receptor. Studies of this receptor and its ligandssuggested its role in regulation of monocyte chemotaxis and thymic cell apoptosis. Morespecifically, this receptor may contribute to the proper positioning of activated T cellswithin the antigenic challenge sites and specialized areas of lymphoid tissues. This gene islocated at the chemokine receptor gene cluster region. CCR8 expression has been reportedin spleen and thymus, natural killer cells, monocytes, and T cells, and at lower levels inperipheral blood leukocytes. CCR8 is also believed to be alternative coreceptor with CD4for HIV-1 infection.

Specificity
This antibody recognises the chemokine receptor CCR8, also known as CDw198, which hasbeen identified as a co-receptor for HIV infection. CCR8 is a receptor for the humanchemokine 1-309 which is expressed on spleen, thymus and T lymphoblastic cell lines. This antibody detects a band of approximately 50kD. Species: Human. Others not tested.
