Peptide ELISA: antibody detection limit dilution 1: 1000. Western blot: 1-3 μg/mL. Customer's experiments gave a band at approx 38 kDa in MouseLymphocyte lysates (calculated MW of 39.8 kDa according to Human NP_000662.3 and39.8 kDa according to Mouse NP_031436.2). Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.

ADH5
(Alcohol Dehydrogenase 5 (Class III), chi Polypeptide (ADH5))
Alternative Name
Alcohol Dehydrogenase 5 (ADH5)
Background
The ADH5 gene encodes glutathione dependent formaldehyde dehydrogenase or class III alcohol dehydrogenase chi subunit, which is a member of the alcohol dehydrogenase family. Members of this family metabolize a wide variety of substrates, retinol, ethanol and other aliphatic alcohols, hydroxysteroids, and lipid peroxidation products. Class III alcohol dehydrogenase is a homodimer composed of 2 chi subunits. It has virtually no activity for ethanol oxidation, but exhibits high activity for oxidation of long chain primary alcohols and for oxidation of S hydroxymethyl glutathione, a spontaneous adduct between formaldehyde and glutathione. The enzyme is an important component of cellular metabolism for the elimination of formaldehyde, which is a potent irritant and sensitizing agent that causes rhinitis, lacrymation, contact dermatitis and pharyngitis.Synonyms: Alcohol dehydrogenase class 3 chi chain, Glutathione-dependent formaldehyde dehydrogenase, S-(hydroxymethyl)glutathione dehydrogenase
