Description
|
Receptors for the C - C chemokine family include CCR1, CCR2A, CCR3, CCR4, CCR5 and theDuffy blood group antigen. The C - C receptors are important in the function of T cellchemotaxis and migration of phagocytic cells to sites of inflammation. CCR4 ispreferentially expressed on type 2 helper T (Th2-type) cells. In contrast to other chemokinereceptors, the expression of CCR4 and CCR8 on Th2 cells is transiently increased followingTCR and CD28 engagement. Moreover, activated Th1 cells up regulate CCR4 expression andfunctional responsiveness to thymus- and activation-regulated chemokine. CCR4 mediates inflammatory responses and HIV-1 infections. It binds beta-familychemokines (CC motif) such as TARC (thymus and activation-regulated chemokine) andMDC (macrophage-derived chemokine).
