Synonyms: Sodium-coupled neutral amino acid transporter 1 (Amino acid transporter A1) (rATA1) (Glutamine transporter) (N-system amino acid transporter 2) (Solute carrier family 38 member 1) (System A amino acid transporter 1) (System A transporter 2) (System N amino acid transporter 1)
Target Description: Sodium-coupled neutral amino acid transporter 1 (SNAT1) or Solute Carrier Family 38 Member 1 is encoded by the gene Slc38a1 and belongs to the amino acid/polyamine transporter 2 family. SNAT1 acts as a sodium-dependent transporter of glutamine which serves as a precursor for the synaptic transmitter, glutamate. SNAT1 is expressed in brain, specifically at glutamatergic and GABAergic neurons, and also expressed in placenta, heart, lung, skeletal muscle, spleen, stomach and testis. Diseases associated with this gene include Klatskin's Tumor.
