Background
Islet of insulinoma amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) is a 37 amino acids monomeric polypeptide isolated from pancreatic amyloid. It is commonly found in the islet of patients with diabetes mellitus type II and in insulinomas. IAPP selectively inhibits insulin-stimulated glucose utilization and glycogen deposition in muscle, while not affecting adipocyte glucose metabolism.
