Background: This protein belongs to a G protein coupled heptahelical receptor subfamily named Endothelial Cell Differentiation Genes (EDG)that act as receptors for biologically active lysophospholipids. This group consists of two receptor subgroups specific for S1P and LPA respectively. EDG6 is the receptor for lysophospholipid sphingosine 1 phosphate (S1P). S1P elicits diverse physiological effect on most types of cells and tissues. EDG6 may be involved in cell migration processes that are specific for lymphocytes.
