Background
- DNA methyltransferase 1-associated protein 1 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the DMAP1 gene and consisting of 433 aminoacids. It is involved in transcription repression and activation. DMAP1 interacts with HDAC2 which provides a mechanism for histone deacetylation in heterochromatin following replication of DNA at late dismissal origins. DMAP1 can also repress transcription independently of histone deacetylase activity. It participates in the nuclear localization of URI1 and increases its transcriptional co-repressor activity. It is expressed in adipose tissue, adrenal gland, amniotic fluid, cerebellar cortex, hippocampus, liver, etc.
