Background
- Background: FUSIP1 (FUS-interacting protein 1) was originally identified in a two-hybrid screen for partners of the TLS (translocated in liposarcoma) protein also known as FUS. FUSIP1 is a splicing factor of the serine-arginine (SR) family of proteins. It functions as a splicing factor that in its dephosphorylated form acts as a general repressor of pre-mRNA splicing. FUSIP1 seems to interfere with the U1 snRNP 5'-splice recognition of SNRNP70, and it is required for splicing repression in M-phase cells and after heat shock [taken from the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) O75494].
