    Alternative Name

    BRD1

    Background

Background: BRD1 (bromodomain containing 1) is a bromodomain containing protein that also bears a PHD-type zinc-finger and a PWWP domain. Although little is known about its specific function, BRD1 has been found to be a component of the MOZ/MORF complex which is involved in histone acetylation. Additionally, several associations between BRD1 and schizophrenia and bipolar disorder have been made and suggest that BRD1 is a new susceptibility gene for these disorders. Immunohistochemical studies have also suggested that BRD1 may play a specific role in neuronal development.
