    Background
Background: p66alpha and p66beta are human orthologs of the xenopus p66 subunit of the Mi-2/NuRD complex. The Mi-2/NuRD complex is a multi-subunit complex that mediates gene repression via processes involving chromatin remodeling and histone deacetylation. p66 alpha and beta were identified in a two-hybrid screen using the methyl-CpG-binding domain protein, MBD2, as bait. It has been demonstrated that p66alpha and p66beta mediate the interaction between MBD2 and histones.
