    Background

Background: The SATB2 (Special AT-rich Sequence-Binding Protein 2) gene has been identified as part of a chromosomal translocation involving 2q32-q33 that results in isolated cleft palate (CPO). SATB2 is an AT-rich DNA binding protein. In the rat, SATB2 expression is specific to the developing neocortex, and it is suggested to play a role in chromatin organization and gene expression in the brain.
