Purpose
- Anti-alpha catenin [1G5], Rabbit IgG, kappa
-
Specificity
- This antibody recognizes alpha catenin and binds to the domain between amino acids 135-226. α-catenin associates with the cytoplasmic domain of a variety of plasma membrane spanning cadherins that mediate cell-cell adhesion. The association of catenins to cadherins produces a complex that is linked to the actin filament network, which seems to be of primary importance for their cell-adhesion properties.

Application Notes
- This antibody is recommended for the detection and analysis of alpha-catenin via various methods. For instance, it was used to identify alpha-catenin in MDA468 cells via immunofluorescence (Bajpai et al., 2009). It was also repeatedly demonstrated that 1G5 specifically detects alpha-catenin on Western blots (Johnson et al., 1993, Stadler et al., 2018).
