  • Target

    BBS9 (Bardet-Biedl Syndrome 9 (BBS9))

    Alternative Name

    BBS9

    Background

Synonyms: Troponin I, fast skeletal muscle, Troponin I, fast-twitch isoform, TNNI2

Tissue Specificity: Highly expressed in brain and weakly in heart, small intestine and uterus. Isoform 1A is mostly expressed in granular cell and molecular layer. Isoform 1B is mostly expressed in Purkinje cells. Isoform 1E is predominantly expressed in peripheral tissues as kidney, lung, trachea, colon, small intestine, stomach, bone marrow, thymus and mammary gland. .

Background: Bardet-Biedl syndrome 9 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the BBS9 gene. This gene is downregulated by parathyroid hormone in osteoblastic cells, and therefore is thought to be involved in parathyroid hormone action in bones. The exact function of this gene has not yet been determined. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
