Background
- Troponin I is the inhibitory subunit of troponin, the thin filament regulatory complex which confers calcium-sensitivity to striated muscle actomyosin ATPase activity. The Troponin I subfamily contains three genes: Troponin I-skeletal-fast-twitch, Troponin I-skeletal-slow-twitch, and Troponin I-cardiac. Troponin I-cardiac is exclusively expressed in cardiac muscle tissues. [taken from the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) www.uniprot.org/uniprot/P19429].
