Application

ELISA
  • Characteristics

ELISA kit for detection of CMV in the research laboratory
    Alternative Names: Cytomegalovirus ELISA Kit
  • Application Notes

Optimal conditions to be determined by end user

    Assay Procedure

Diluted patient serum is added to wells coated with purified antigen. IgG specific antibody, if present, binds to the antigen. All unbound materials are washed away and the enzyme conjugate is added to bind to the antibody-antigen complex, if present. Excess enzyme conjugate is washed off and substrate is added. The plate is incubated to allow the hydrolysis of the substrate by the enzyme. The intensity of the color generated is proportional to the amount of IgG specific antibody in the sample.

    Restrictions

    For Research Use only
  • Precaution of Use

All reagents of this test kit derived from human or animal serum or plasma have been tested and confirmed negative for hepatitis B surface antigen as well as HIV antibody. However, there is no test method that can offer complete assurance therefore all reagents, should be treated as potential biohazards in use and for disposal.

    Background

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a member of the herpesvirus group (Betasubfamily, DNA virus of 150-200 nm). These viruses share a characteristic ability to remain dormant within the body over a long period. Initial CMV infection, which may have few symptoms, is always followed by a prolonged, inapparent infection during which the virus resides in cells without causing detectable damage or clinical illness. Severe impairmant of the body´s immune system by medication or disease consistently reactivates the virus from the latent or dormant state.
