Background
- Glycogenin 1 is an enzyme involved in glycogen biosynthesis. Glycogenin 1 is important for the function of self-glucosylates, via an inter-subunit mechanism, to form an oligosaccharide primer that serves as substrate for glycogen synthase. Also, it plays a role in regulating glycogen metabolism and the attainment of maximal glycogen levels in skeletal muscle. Recombinant human Glycogenin 1, fused to His-T7-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques. Synonyms: Glycogenin, GYG1, GYG, Glycogenin1, GYG 1. NCBI no.: AAH00033
