- Background
- EIF3I, also known as eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 subunit I, is a multiprotein complex that functions during the initiation phase of eukaryotic translation. This protein is one out of 13 subunits of the mammalian EIF3 complex which associated with the 40S ribosome and facilitates the formation of 43S pre-initiation complex. This complex stimulates nearly all steps of translation initiation. These factors also appear to participate in other phases of translation, such as recycling, where it promotes the splitting of post-termination ribosomes. Also, it is shown to act as a signaling transducer by bind to and activating AKT1 through preventing PP2A-induced AKT1 dephosphorylation in tumor cells. Recombinant Human EIF3I, fused to His-tag at C-terminus, was expressed in insect cell and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.
