AKR7A2 contributes to protection against MG-induced toxicity.
structure and tissue-related expression of AFAR genes on chromosome 1
The human aldo-keto reductase AKR7A2 has been proposed previously to catalyze the NADPH (show NQO1 ELISA Kits)-dependent reduction of succinic semialdehyde (SSA (show TRIM21 ELISA Kits)) to gamma-Hydroxybutyrate in human brain
The human AFAR gene family maps to a genomic region in 1p36 of frequent hemizygous deletions in various human cancers.
Aflatoxin B(1) aldehyde reductase (show ADH1B ELISA Kits) (AKR7A2) was confirmed to be only highly expressed in pancreatic cancer, not in normal adjacent pancreas and benign tumors.
These findings indicate the importance of AKR7A5 in protecting cells from the damaging effects of oxidative stress, and that this cytoprotective function is carried out through multiple pathways.
AKR7A5 has selective substrate specificity towards naphthoquinone derivatives, suggesting that the aldo-keto reductase could play an important role in metabolism of certain naphthoquinone derivatives.
structure and tissue-related expression of AFAR genes
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the aldo/keto reductase (AKR) superfamily and AKR7 family, which are involved in the detoxification of aldehydes and ketones. The AKR7 family consists of 3 genes that are present in a cluster on the p arm of chromosome 1. This protein, thought to be localized in the golgi, catalyzes the NADPH-dependent reduction of succinic semialdehyde to the endogenous neuromodulator, gamma-hydroxybutyrate. It may also function as a detoxication enzyme in the reduction of aflatoxin B1 and 2-carboxybenzaldehyde.
