  7. This meta-analysis shows that the ASPN D14, D13, and D15 (show MRPL16 Proteins) alleles are not associated with the development of osteoarthritis in Europeans and Asians. [Meta-Analysis]

  8. A meta-analysis suggest that the D-repeat of asporin gene (ASPN) may not be a major susceptibility locus in the Caucasian and Asian populations with knee osteoarthritis.

  10. D14-PLAP-1 (show ALP Proteins) suppressed BMP-2 (show BMP2 Proteins) signal transduction more efficiently than D13-PLAP-1 (show ALP Proteins); stronger affinity of D14-PLAP-1 (show ALP Proteins) protein to BMP-2 (show BMP2 Proteins) compared with D13-PLAP-1 (show ALP Proteins) protein. D repeat polymorphism of PLAP-1/asporin has influence on functions of PDL cells.

Asporin (ASPN) Protein Profile

Protein Summary

This gene encodes a cartilage extracellular protein that is member of the small leucine-rich proteoglycan family. The encoded protein may regulate chondrogenesis by inhibiting transforming growth factor-beta 1-induced gene expression in cartilage. This protein also binds collagen and calcium and may induce collagen mineralization. Polymorphisms in the aspartic acid repeat region of this gene are associated with a susceptibility to osteoarthritis. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
