| Description | Human formyl peptide-receptor-like-1 (FPRL1) belongs to the large family of G-protein coupled receptors. More than 1000 human GPCR-genes were identified. GPCRs are characterized by seven transmembrane helices. In most cases, the extracellular N-terminal domain and the three extracellular loops are responsible for binding ligands and thereby determine receptor activity.FPRL1 shares 69% identity at the amino acid-level with FPR, the well-known formyl peptide receptor. FPLR1 has been reported as a low-affinity fMLF receptor and, therefore, has been proposed to function in host defence mechanisms due to its ability to bind formylated bacterial peptides. FPRL1 is expressed in astrocytes, neutrophils and monocytes. Since FPRL1 is expressed in neutrophils and monocytes and it was shown using another monoclonal antibody that chemokines can be potent and specific ligands (Elagoz et al., 2003) FPRL1 might have interesting functions in inflammatory pathways. |
| Specificity | GM1D6 recognises FPRL1 transiently expressed on the cell surface of transfected BOSC cells (Fig. 1). |
