The antibody is directed against the beta 2 epitope of the beta subunit of FSH. Shows strong reactions with FSH and beta-FSH, but no cross-reactivity with TSH, LH, HCG, alph-HCG or alpha-FSH. The recognition site is located near the alpha 1 binding site on the hFSH molecule. It is not compatible with other anti-hFSH-beta antibodies.

Follicle stimulating hormone enables ovarian folliculogenesis to the antral follicle stage and is essential for Sertoli cell proliferation and maintenance of sperm quality in the testis. Members of the pituitary glycoprotein hormone family, of which FSH is one consist of a shared alpha chain and a beta chain encoded by a separate gene. The FSH beta gene encodes the beta subunit of follicle stimulating hormone.Synonyms: FSH beta, FSHB, Follitropin beta chain
