Description
FANCC (also called Protein FACC or Fanconi AnemiaGroup C protein) is involved in DNA repair, perhaps specifically with post-replicationrepair or a cell cycle checkpoint function.FANCC may also be implicated in interstrandDNA cross-link repair and in the maintenanceof normal chromosome stability. FANCCbelongs to the multi-subunit Fanconi Anemia(FA) complex composed of FANCA, FANCB,FANCC, FANCE, FANCF, FANCG,FANCL/PHF9 and FANCM. FANCC is mainlyfound within the nucleus although someprotein is localized in the cytoplasm. Thisprotein is ubiquitously expressed. Defects inFANCC are a cause of Fanconi anemia (FA).FA is a genetically heterogeneous, autosomalrecessive disorder characterized byprogressive pancytopaenia, a diverseassortment of congenital malformations, and a predisposition to the development of malignancies. At the cellular level it is associated with hypersensitivity to DNA-damaging agents, chromosomal instability (increased chromosome breakage), and defective DNA repair.

Specificity
This affinity-purified antibody is directed against human FANCC protein. The product was affinitypurified from monospecific antiserum by immunoaffinity purification. A BLAST analysis was used to suggest cross reactivitywith FANCC protein from human and chimpanzee based on 100% homology with the immunizing sequence. Reactivityagainst homologues from other sources is not known.

Application Notes
This affinity purified antibody has been tested for use in ELISA and by western blot. Specific conditionsfor reactivity should be optimized by the end user. Expect a band approximately 63 kDa in size corresponding to FANCC bywestern blotting in the appropriate human tissue.
