Additional Information

Characteristics Synonyms: NF kappa B p65, NFkB p65, Transcription factor p65, Rel A, NFKB3, Nuclear factorNF-kappa-B p65 subunit, Nuclear factor of kappa light polypeptide gene enhancer inB-cells 3
Swiss-Prot Q04206
Description Proteins encoded by the v-Rel viral oncogene and its cellular homolog, c-Rel, are membersof a family of transcription factors that include the two subunits of the transcription factorNFkappaB (p50 and p65) and the Drosophila maternal morphogen, dorsal. Both proteinsspecifically bind to DNA sequences that are the same or slight variations of the 10 bpkappaB sequence in the immunoglobulin kappa light chain enhancer. This same sequenceis also present in a number of other cellular and viral enhancers. The DNA binding activityof NFkappaB is activated and rapidly transported from the cytoplasm to the nucleus incells exposed to mitogens or growth factors. cDNAs encoding precursors for two distinct 50kDa proteins have been described, designated p105 and p100, respectively. The p105precursor contains p50 at its amino terminus and a C-terminal region that when expressedas a separate molecule, designated pdI, binds to p50 and regulates its activity.
Specificity This antibody detects endogenous levels of NFkappaB-p65 protein. Species: Human and Mouse. Others not tested.
