Description: HSD11B2 catalyzes the conversion of cortisol to the inactive metabolite cortisone. Theprotein modulates intracellular glucocorticoid levels, thus protecting the nonselectivemineralocorticoid receptor from occupation by glucocorticoids. Defects in HSD11B2 are the cause of apparent mineralocorticoid excess (AME). AME is apotentially fatal disease characterized by severe juvenile low-renin hypertension, sodiumretention, hypokalemia and low levels of aldosterone. It often leads to nephrocalcinosis.

Specificity: This antibody recognizes 11-HSD2. Species Reactivity: Tested: Human. Expected from sequence similarity: Mouse and Rat.

Application Notes: Western blot: 1/200. Immunohistochemistry on Paraffin Sections: 10 µg/ml. Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.
