    Background
Elongator is a component of early elongation complexes formed in cell nuclear extracts and can interact directly with RNA polymerase II. ELP contains four isoforms: ELP1, ELP2, ELP3, and Ad4BP/SF1. ELP1 functioned as a repressor. The ELP2, ELP3, and Ad4BP/SF1 functioned as transactivators. Complex patterns of expression of these isoforms were observed in various tissues. All four ELP isoforms were expressed only in EC cells.
