    Background
RAN binding protein 1, also known as RANBP1, belongs to a family of proteins that bind Ran GTPase which is essential for mRNA processing, nuclear transport, cell cycle control, mitotic spindle assembly, and postmitotic nuclear re-assembly and nuclear architecture maintenance. RANBP1 does not activate GTPase activity of RAN but does markedly increase GTP hydrolysis by the RanGTPase-activating protein (RanGAP1). Also, RANBP1 acts as a negative regulator of RCC1 by inhibiting RCC1-stimulated guanine nucleotide release from RAN. Recombinant human RANBP1 protein, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.
