Helicobacter pylori HopQ binds the amino-terminal IgV-like domain of human CEACAM1, CEACAM3 (show CEACAM3 Antibodies), CEACAM5 (show CEACAM5 Antibodies) or CEACAM6 proteins, thereby enabling translocation of the major pathogenicity factor CagA (show S100A8 Antibodies) into host cells.
Here, the authors identify members of the carcinoembryonic antigen (show CEACAM5 Antibodies)-related cell adhesion molecule (show MCAM Antibodies) (CEACAM) family as receptors of Helicobacter pylori and show that HopQ is the surface-exposed adhesin that specifically binds human CEACAM1, CEACAM3 (show CEACAM3 Antibodies), CEACAM5 (show CEACAM5 Antibodies) and CEACAM6.
Data show that SOX9 (show SOX9 Antibodies) regulates CEACAM1 primarily via Sp1 (show PSG1 Antibodies) and ETS1 (show ETS1 Antibodies).
short cytoplasmic domain isoforms at the primary lesion invasion front associated with recurrence and prognosis of patients with colorectal liver metastasis after curative hepatectomy; expression of CEACAM1-4S enhances the tumor-initiating property of colorectal cancer cells
Results report that CEACAM1 was uniquely expressed at high levels in both human neoplastic mast cells (mastocytosis) and medullary thyroid carcinoma cell (MTC (show MT1A Antibodies)) lines, and suggest that the dominantly interacting proteins SHP1 (show PTPN6 Antibodies) or SFK determine whether CEACAM1-L displays a positive or negative role in tumor cells. .
SASH1 (show SASH1 Antibodies) acts through NOTCH1 (show NOTCH1 Antibodies) and its inhibitor DLK1 (show DLK1 Antibodies) in a three-dimensional model of lumenogenesis involving CEACAM1.
CEACAM1 also inhibits viral spread in ex vivo human decidua organ culture.
In enterocytic C2BBe1 cells, Candida albicans caused a transient tyrosine phosphorylation of CEACAM1 and induced higher expression of membrane-bound CEACAM1 and soluble CEACAM6.

A 30-day high fat feeding regimen demonstrated that white adipose tissue-derived fatty acids repressed hepatic CEACAM1-dependent regulation of insulin (show INS Antibodies) and lipid metabolism in 3-month-old male C57BL/6J mice.
CEACAM1 exacerbates hypoxic cardiomyocyte injury and post-infarction cardiac remodeling by enhancing cardiomyocyte mitochondrial dysfunction and endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced apoptosis.
The increase in total fat mass in Cc1 (show RB1CC1 Antibodies)(-/-) mice is mainly attributed to hyperphagia and reduced spontaneous physical activity. Although the contribution of the loss of CEACAM1 from anorexigenic proopiomelanocortin (show POMC Antibodies) neurons in the arcuate nucleus is unclear, leptin (show LEP Antibodies) resistance and elevated hypothalamic fatty-acid synthase (show FASN Antibodies) activity could underlie altered energy balance in these mice.
Ceacam1 is essential for normal integrin aIIbb3-mediated platelet function; the disruption of mouse Ceacam1 induced moderate integrin aIIbb3-mediated functional defects.
hepatic CEACAM1 expression at fasting is mediated by Pparalpha (show PPARA Antibodies)-dependent mechanisms.
Gram-positive bacteria promote the mRNA expression of CEACAM1 or CEACAM20 in the small intestine. Inflammatory cytokines or butyrate likely participates in such effects of commensal bacteria.
CEACAM1 is a crucial regulator of B-cell survival, influencing B-cell numbers and protective antiviral antibody responses
High-fat diet amplifies the permissive effect of Ceacam1 deletion on renal expression of all renin (show REN Antibodies)-angiotensin system components, PI3K phosphorylation, inflammation, and fibrosis.
Ceacam1L acts as a crucial factor in glioblastoma-initiating cell maintenance and tumorigenesis by activating c-Src (show SRC Antibodies)/STAT3 (show STAT3 Antibodies) signaling. Monomers of the cytoplasmic domain of Ceacam1L bound to c-Src (show SRC Antibodies) and STAT3 (show STAT3 Antibodies) and induced their phosphorylation.
This gene encodes a member of the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) gene family, which belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. Two subgroups of the CEA family, the CEA cell adhesion molecules and the pregnancy-specific glycoproteins, are located within a 1.2 Mb cluster on the long arm of chromosome 19. Eleven pseudogenes of the CEA cell adhesion molecule subgroup are also found in the cluster. The encoded protein was originally described in bile ducts of liver as biliary glycoprotein. Subsequently, it was found to be a cell-cell adhesion molecule detected on leukocytes, epithelia, and endothelia. The encoded protein mediates cell adhesion via homophilic as well as heterophilic binding to other proteins of the subgroup. Multiple cellular activities have been attributed to the encoded protein, including roles in the differentiation and arrangement of tissue three-dimensional structure, angiogenesis, apoptosis, tumor suppression, metastasis, and the modulation of innate and adaptive immune responses. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been reported, but the full-length nature of all variants has not been defined.
