Specificity
- Recognizes human clusterin, also known as apolipoprotein J, Ku70-binding protein 1 or TRPM-2. Clusterin is a ubiquitous glycoprotein which exists in at least two distinct isoforms, a proapoptotic nuclear form, of 49kD, and a prosurvival secretory form with a molecular weight of 75-80kD. Clusterin is implicated in several diverse physiological processes including sperm maturation, cell differentiation, and apoptosis. Clusterin upregulation has been reported in various human malignancies, including bladder, prostate, and breast tumors. Following specific stress induced injury, secretory clusterin acts as a molecular chaperone, scavenging denatured proteins outside cells. It has been shown to be upregulated in Alzheimer's€™s disease (Chen et al. 2012), retinitis pigmentosa (Jobes et al 1993), glomerulonephritis, atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction (Rosenberg et al. 2002).
