    Alternative Name

    ADIPOR1

    Background

Synonyms: Adiponectin receptor protein 1,Progestin and adipoQ receptor family member I,ADIPOR1,PAQR1 , TESBP1A,CGI-45,

Tissue Specificity: Widely expressed (PubMed:16044242). Highly expressed in heart and skeletal muscle (PubMed:12802337). Expressed at intermediate level in brain, spleen, kidney, liver, placenta, lung and peripheral blood leukocytes (PubMed:12802337). Weakly expressed in colon, thymus and small intestine (PubMed:12802337). .

Background: ADIPOR1 is known as Adiponectin receptor protein 1. This gene encodes a protein which acts as a receptor for adiponectin, a hormone secreted by adipocytes which regulates fatty acid catabolism and glucose levels. Binding of adiponectin to the encoded protein results in activation of an AMP-activated kinase signaling pathway which affects levels of fatty acid oxidation and insulin sensitivity. A pseudogene of this gene is located on chromosome 14. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene.

Sequence Similarities: Belongs to the ADIPOR family.
