This antibody specifically recognises 49 kDa MEK5, also known as MAP2K5, when phosphorylated at Ser311 and Thr315. Activation of MEK5 itself is regulated by upstream MAP3K3/MEKK3, and phosphorylation of MEK5 at both the Ser311 and Thr315 sites has been implicated in cell proliferation.

Background
MEK5 is a dual specificity serine/threonine protein kinase belonging to the MAP kinase kinase family, which acts as a key regulator in a mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase cascade, and hence growth factor-induced cellular stimulation. MEK5 exists in naturally occurring MEK5alpha and MEK5beta splice variants, the former of which is known to specifically activate/regulate MAPK7/ERK5/BMK1, whilst the latter may act as a suppressor of MAPK7 activation.Synonyms: Dual specificity mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 5, MAP kinase kinase 5, MAPKK 5, MEK5, MKK5
