Background
- Lysozyme is 129 amino acids, 14.4 kDa enzyme that hydrolyzes 1,4 beta linkage between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetyl glucosamine residue in peptiglycan and between N-acetyl glucosamine’s residues in chitodextrins. It is found in secretions, tears, saliva and mucus. It is also found in Cytoplasmic granules of the polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) and egg whites. It has also been reported in spleen, kidney, lung, WBC and plasma. This antibody labels myeloid cells, histocytes, granulocytes, macrophages and monocyes. It is helpful in detection of myeloid or monocytic nature of acute leukemia.
