This gene belongs to the dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase (DDAH) gene family. DDAH1 plays a role in nitric oxide generation by regulating cellular concentrations of methylarginines, which in turn inhibit nitric oxide synthase activity. It widely expressed, especially in liver and kidney.
