  • Target

    Caspase 12 (CASP12) (Caspase 12 (Gene/pseudogene) (CASP12))

    Alternative Name

    Caspase-12

    Background

Caspase 12 belongs to a family of enzymes called caspases that is highly related to members of the ICE subfamily. Other caspases cleave their substrates at C-terminal aspartic acid residue but caspase 12 does not have protease properties rather it processes inflammatory cytokines. It is involved in the activation cascade of caspases responsible for apoptosis execution. Diseases associated with CASP12 include sepsis and prion disease. Caspase 12 is mainly expressed in skeletal muscle and lung.
