Background
- TIP60 (60 kDa Tat-interactive protein) alternatively called as Lysine acetyltransferase 5 (KAT5) or Histone acetyltransferase KAT5 is a member of MYST protein family with four isoforms (58, 53, 61 and 56 kDa). TIP60 plays important roles in regulating chromatin remodeling, transcription, DNA repair and apoptosis. TIP60 causes transcription activation by acetylating nucleosomal histones H4 and H2A. Mutations at gene level are associated with diseases like HIV-1, and Kaposis sarcoma. TIP60 is mainly expressed in brain tissue.
